Hypnosis and Weight Loss

For years I wondered what was wrong with me that I couldn’t lose weight and keep it off.  I tried everything society and mainstream “diet” industries told me I needed to do, and yet nothing worked.  I thought something was wrong with me.  The more upset I got, the more weight I would put on.  This couldn’t just be happening to me, right?  And why does this happen?  This never ending cycle that can’t seem to be broken?  That was always my question and I was determined to find the answer.  After much research and trial, I found it.  Hypnotherapy.

The mainstream” diet” industries only approach weight management from the physical aspect and make it sound like a temporary time that you need to work on it.. They do not acknowledge the underlying problem with most people’s weight issues or that you need to change your life and your lifestyle permanently.  The mind, the mental blocks and the traumas are often the main causes for weight gain..  Weight loss programs, such as Weight Watchers, NutriSystem, Jenny Craig, etc, are weight loss programs that educate a client how to eat, what to eat, when to exercise and how to exercise, the physical aspects of weight loss. They do not take into any consideration the reason WHY people are overeating or binging or unable to stop eating certain foods.  Yes, some have group meetings for support, but many overweight people do not consciously know what the underlying issues to their struggle with their weight are, so how are they supposed to be able to talk about these issues in a group setting?  Society has a stigma against “therapy”.  Many people are very self conscious and will not go to a group support meeting or even to a psychologist and talk about their issues as this shows vulnerability, which could actually trigger more self consciousness and more eating and binging to deal with the uncomfortableness.  Most people do not even know what these blocks are that need removed and released, but that doesn’t matter with Hypnotherapy.  They are removed and released without emotional turmoil to the client.

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness where a skilled practitioner communicates with your subconscious.  During hypnosis the client is always in control and will only accept suggestions from a practitioner that is in accordance with the client’s morale code and beliefs.  Hypnosis plants suggestions and affirmations within your subconscious mind to help you better your life, to overcome fears and addictions and to help you remove blocks that are in your path of happiness and/or a better, brighter future.  Once these suggestion and affirmations are planted within the subconscious mind, they grow and nourish your new behaviors, attitudes, mindsets on your initial issues, addiction, fear.  Your subconscious mind is the powerhouse of change within yourself.  Once the seed is planted in this powerhouse garden, it will grow within you.  This is why the hypnotherapist quiets your conscious mind and communicates directly to the source of change and power within you with an affirmation or suggestion that you chose. The client then is free to have a happier and healthier life.

Make this year count!

Happy New Year Everyone!  With the new year, many people make resolutions for a “new me”.  As a life coach, I am here to tell you that resolutions are great starts, but you need a lot of work to go with them.  Resolutions are like action affirmations for you to start your new you and new year off right.  Although, just stating a resolution is not enough to keep it. I will help with a  point for you below.

Many people do not know exactly what a Life coach is, but I am going to tell you what it is not.  A Life Coach is not a therapist or counselor.  I will not tell you what to do or what you need to do.  I listen to you and together we narrow down your needs and wants in your life.  I help you find your own answers and help you make a game plan on how to change your life for the better.  I help you find the missing priorities in your life.  I help you find and jumpstart your own healing.  

Notice that those sentences may start with “I”, but YOU are the one doing the work.  You find your own answers.  You come up with your own changes.  You are the one who tells you what you need to do.  How do you come to those conclusions?  Sometimes we will play games to help you find your answers.  Sometimes it is strictly just through conversing and me listening to you.  I will then provoke your thinking by asking you direct, yet objective questions.  Sometimes we make lists.  It all depends on you.  I approach each session based completely on who you are and what you need from me.  Everyone is different and I appreciate and acknowledge that. I love working everyday not knowing exactly who I will meet or what answers we will find.  

My Life Coaching advice for you:  Make 2 lists.  The first is one of what you want or need more of in your life this year.  Such things may be more fun, more time with my family or friends, to pay off my debt, to buy a house, etc.  The second list is what you need or want less of this year in your life.  Such things may be less stress, less weight or fat on your body, less junk food, etc.  Then brainstorm 1 action item that you could implement this week to take your first step to making that happen.  We are looking for easy, small and doable actions.  Want more fun in your life?  Go spend time playing games with your kids or pets.  Want less stress?  Youtube videos on how to meditate and start practicing.  

Make this year count!

12 Tips for the Holidays

This week we would like to share Christina’s 12 Tips for the Holidays, well these tips are great for all of the Holidays during this season!  We here at Radiance wish everyone a Happy, Safe and absolutely Wonderful Holiday Season!  We know and respect that we have followers and clients from different religious backgrounds so we hope that no matter what you celebrate this season that it is the best one for you and your family.  Have a lot of fun and time with friends and family!  Next week we will be taking a break from our weekly blog postings but will pick up the week after.

The 12 Tips for the Holidays 1: Take smaller portions, and keep Grandma happy by taking seconds.

The 12 Tips for the Holidays 2: Stop when you are full! If you stuff yourself, it leads to gas, indigestion and rapid weight gain.

The 12 Tips for the Holidays 3: Take a walk after big meals. It may be popular to lounge after a meal, however, you will feel better and get more family bonding time by taking a leisurely walk after a big meal.

The 12 Tips for the Holidays 4: Don’t count calories. It is rude to ask what of sugar or butter was used in a dish. Count 5 vegetables, it’s easier, healthier and, more importantly, quieter.

The 12 Tips for the Holidays 5: Snack healthy. Cookies and pastries are icons of this Holidays season, but a crisp apple or leftover turkey will keep the pounds off.

The 12 Tips for the Holidays 6: Can’t decide between the veggie tray and the cookie tray? Don’t! Take one cookie and several vegetables. Keep your host happy, indulge your sweet tooth and make the healthy choice.

The 12 Tips for the Holidays 7: Skip the ‘nog. Eggnog is a thick, fattening, alcoholic drink that tastes wonderful. Keep to a single glass of wine or small tumbler of the ‘nog.

The 12 Tips for the Holidays 8: Choose 100% Whole Wheat or Multi-Grain breads for the stuffing. They taste better and are healthier. I do this and it really does taste richer!

The 12 Tips for the Holidays 9: Play outside. The wintertime is the only time to ski, make snow angels and sled. Don’t let the kids have all the fun. Playing in the snow is a great bonding time for kids. Or since the weather has been milder, Play outside with the kids or run around the yard with the dogs.  

The 12 Tips for the Holidays 10: Eat big meals early. Holidays Dinner may be iconic, but a full meal at 2 PM is better for digestion. Plus you get to pick at the leftovers all night!

The 12 Tips for the Holidays 11: Load your plate at least half with veggies. Typical holiday meals include candied sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, buttered carrots and rutabagas (a turnip). All of these are healthy and taste wonderful.

The 12 Tips for the Holidays 12: Engage your family at the table. People who talk with family eat slower and less foods. They are also happier and healthier. With friends tonight? Aren’t they just an extended family?

Reiki and Quantum Touch

Hello All.  Dana again.  Continuing on the topic of Energy and how it affects us, I will be introducing you to Reiki and Quantum Touch.  These are vibrational subtle energy work modalities that we will be offering at Radiance.

When we talk about energy work we are talking about cleaning, clearing and manipulating the etheric, auric and astral fields and energies of our clients and ourselves.  Don’t let the word “manipulate” scare you.  In Reiki, the practitioner clears out the negative energy and replace it with white, positive light and energy.  Reiki also helps balances our chakras.  We use a vibrational subtle energy that is called many things by many people.  To name just a few: Universal White Light, Universal Life Force Energy, Ki, Chi, Prana, the Holy Spirit.  The practitioner calls upon this Universal White Light through a prayer at the beginning of the session and they pray to and invoke the deity of their religious beliefs.  

Reiki is performed by channeling this white light through the practitioner’s hands to the client’s auric field or right on the body, if the client feels comfortable.  Some of Reiki’s health benefits are stress reduction and relaxation, which triggers the body’s natural healing abilities, and improves and maintains health.  There are many others and each person has individual benefits depending on their current health.  Reiki is a natural therapy that gently balances life energies and brings health and wellbeing to the recipient.

Quantum Touch is also vibrational subtle energy work that is powered by breath. It is a technique that moves healing energy through an individual creating a more intense effect in the healing process.  Some of Quantum-Touch’s health benefits, just like Reiki, are reducing stress and pain, realigning cellular structure, balancing energies and chakras, reducing muscle aches, and so much more.

Both Reiki and Quantum Touch are performed with the client either lying down on a massage table or sitting upright in a chair, whichever is more comfortable for the client.  The client usually feels a warm or cool feeling from the practitioner’s hands to the area where the hands are located.  Many clients fall asleep and find a state of total relaxation.  Sessions are incredibly relaxing and calming.  The client is often offered a drink of cold water after a session to help them ground them prior to leaving the office.

Energy and You!

Hi All.  Dana here with a topic that is extremely important.  We cannot see our energy fields with our naked eyes.  But just because we can’t see energy doesn’t meant it doesn’t exists.  We are unable to see viruses and bacteria that invade our bodies with the naked eye but we all know that they exist.  Yes, we can see bacteria and viruses with tools such as microscopes and in the same sense we can use tools in order to be able to see, hear, and feel energy as well.  

Energy affects us just like viruses.  We protect our bodies by washing hands, taking vitamins, taking medications and taking care of our physical health.  With our energy health, we need to take measures to keep our energy field just as clear, clean and vital.  We need to be educated in what our energy field is and how to take measures to protect our energy and keep it healthy and clear.  We then need to implement these practices in our daily lives, in our homes and with our families just as we would with viruses and bacteria.

Our energy can make us just as ill as viruses and bacteria if we allow it to become blocked, dark or stagnant.  This isn’t a pleasant thought, but it is a part of reality.  Our thoughts create energy and have the power to change our energy.  When we think negative thoughts, our energies turn negative, dark and heavy.  When we think positive thoughts, our energies turn positive, white and light.  There are many practices you can learn to clear and clean your energies and protections you can implement to protect your energy from outside forces.  Sometimes just the people we are around, the stores we are in and even the food we eat can change our energy.  

Radiance has many energy workers that can help you clear and clean your energy and release any energy blocks you may have.  We are also going to be holding workshops on how to protect your energy and how to change it easily.  Reiki is the main energy modality that we will be offering right at startup of Radiance!  Reiki is a wonderful modality that I will be going into further detail later in this blog series.  

I want to leave you with pictures from Dr. Emoto and his research on how the energy of words affects water molecules.  You can actually change your energy just by drinking water out of a bottle with peaceful and positive words on it.  You can look him up on YouTube and see more photos!  It is amazing and I can’t wait to share more on this topic with you in the future.

Herbal Medicine & You

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  What better time to talk about herbs and food?

Herbs are nearly as old as eating. People have gathered herbs for medicine for centuries. Animals eat herbs to feel better instinctively. Herbs work naturally with our bodies, rather than forcing it to do something it doesn’t naturally do, like drugs do.

Unfortunately, it’s also the reason there are so many supplements on the market and companies that mislead the public. These companies have spawned a whole culture of “armchair herbalists” that think they can read something online and use it. Then, they complain it doesn’t work. (Or worse, swear by it.)

The best way to use herbs to your advantage and get the best results is to contact an herbalist and learn about your body and how the herbs will work with your body. This way, you can monitor any good reactions or negative reactions. As with other natural ingredients or food, with herbs, there are possibilities of bad reactions.

What works even better is eating your herbs. A hundred years ago, people ate nearly ½ cup of herbs every single day. Today, the average is about a teaspoon.

Here’s how to start eating more herbs and spices. Choose one and pair it with your meats, vegetables, soups, and everything else. Next week, choose another. Then, try them both together. You’ll find you like some herbs more than others.

But, where should you get your herbs? That’s a tough question.

I choose companies that grow locally. You can also find good quality herbs at natural and health food stores. Farmer’s markets are treasure troves of fresh herbs.

But, don’t buy from the grocery store. They are old and stale. You won’t get flavor, just filler and many of them are adulterated. Just recently, the largest seller of herbs announced it would remove GMOs and filler… next year. So, for now, you must be aware and choose local or even better, grown them yourself!

Go local, go fresh when you can. And start using lots more. You will feel a difference!

Meet Jessica!

Hello everyone!  It is Dana again.  This week I would like to introduce you to Jessica.  Like most of us, Jessica wears many hats at Radiance.  She is a Reiki III Practitioner, Quantum Touch Practitioner, Intuitive Counselor, Medium and a Certified Angel Card Reader.  Along with all these Holistic modalities, she is also in charge of the accounting at Radiance and is planning many different classes and workshops to help spread her knowledge and educate our community.

Jessica has provided Reiki services to the community since 2013.  Just this year, she became a Certified Angel Card Reader through the world renowned expert on Angels and Archangels, Doreen Virtue. Jessica also has been honing her intuitive gifts for many years and in 2014 she completed Sandy Anastasi’s Certified Psychic Development course.  She is certified in many modalities and is very excited to share them with everyone!  She has held a class on Meditation and an Intuitive Development Seminar in the area and is looking forward to holding more classes and seminars and sharing her knowledge with everyone.

Many people do not know the difference between Intuitive Counseling and Mediumship Sessions.  Intuitive Consulting consists of interpreting signs and symbols that are given from a divine source.  These signs and symbols that come through can be from the past, for the present, or for the future.  This information can provide healing and/or direction to the client for the best possible outcome of an individual’s life situation.  These signs are usually given to Jessica by her guides or the client’s guides.  Mediumship Sessions consist of interpreting the signs and symbols that are given to Jessica from a client’s loved ones that have passed away.

Meet Dana, the Service Coordinator!

Hello All!  I would like to take a minute to introduce myself.  My name is Dana and I am the Service Coordinator at Radiance. Along with being the Service Coordinator, I also am a certified Hypnotherapist, certified Transpersonal Hypnotherapist, certified Life Coach and Spiritual Coach, Reiki III Practitioner (Humans and Animals) and am near completion of my Holistic Practitioner degree.  I am trained in Flower Essences and basic Homeopathy also.  I am a “jack of all trades!”  

As Service Coordinator I will most likely be the first practitioner that you see when you come to Radiance and I will work with you to help you determine which Holistic modalities will help you regain and strengthen your overall health.  We will be able to help you strengthen all aspects of your health: physical, mental, emotional and even spiritual.

Our main goal is to help you take back the control of your own health.  We are anxious to help you learn remedies for problems you may already have AND to help you with preventative care.  Our goal is to help you live the best possible and healthiest life that you can and we have all the tools and training to help you make that happen.  Radiance isn’t just for you, but we also will have services for your furry family members also!  Animal Reiki and Animal Herbals are just the beginning of the services that will be offered at Radiance.  We understand that family isn’t always “just humans”.  My children are all furry and four-legged!

I have worked in different careers, from Accounting to working on a technical drafting program called AUTOCad, and I even have a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education, but nothing ever “felt right” till I had a mini Life Coaching session and learned that I am meant to help others.  I took a while to fully research all I could about different careers and finally I found what I wanted to do: Holistic Practitioner.  It is amazing what a Life Coaching session can help you figure out and remedy in your life.  I am now happier than I have ever been because I have found my true calling and I want to share that with you and help you have this happiness in your life also.  

Over the next couple months we will continue introducing you to the other Practitioners and I will be posting blogs on the Holistic Modalities that we will be offering.  I understand that some people don’t yet know what all of the modalities are, what they do and how they help, so I will introduce you to them one by one, so stay tuned!  If you would have any questions about any in particular, please just e-mail Radiance and feel free to put my name in the Subject line.

Let Thy Food Be Thy Medicine

Nutrition has always been on the minds of people, or at least food has. Back in ancient times, even up to about 100 years ago, food was good and packed with nutrition. People didn’t worry about diseases unless they couldn’t get a mix of vegetables and meats.

Today, food is totally different. In fact, historians suspect that people from 100 years ago wouldn’t recognize 90% of the stuff we call food. Mostly, because it’s so over processed and tastes of chemicals.

It’s the reason diseases are so prevalent today. Unless we track our foods specifically to avoid dangerous by products, we are expected to have chemicals, preservatives, GMOs, and pesticides. That’s not the way food should be.

Here are my requirements for good, nutritious foods:

  • 100% Whole – which mean non-processed or packaged
  • Fresh – preferably from the farmer
  • Local – I know where it comes from
  • Meets my standards – not drenched in pesticides or chemicals

And if all else fails – go organic.

I focus more on local and fresh than organic. Why? At least the farmers around me have high standards. If I ask them if they sprayed, they will tell me.

Most organics are owned by big corporations that are more interested in profit than produce. They meet the minimum definition of organic, often using as many or more organic chemicals to fertilize and spray for bugs.

Besides, regulations are so lax that most organics from big companies aren’t really organic.

So, I make my choice local and fresh. That way, I know my nutrition stays high. It saves me a lot of money of supplements and medications.

Oh, and I can feed myself, my husband and a 15-yo boy on about $75 a week. So, no excuses for it being more expensive!
